How to Scan with Hijack This.

Download and install a piece of freeware called "Hijack This." Run the application, and tell it you want to save the logfile. When it completes, Notepad will open, with a LONG list of programs currently running on your computer.

Next, open up your browser, and go to the Hijack This parser. Copy and paste the Notepad contents into the parser window, and click the "Parse" button.

The site will evaluate all of the programs currently running on your machine, color codings those worth special attention. If you can find an entry for your monitoring software, their interface will help you remove it. If nothing else, you'll at least have the name of the program.

If you want further help, take your log file to the Hijack This forum, register, and (nicely) ask the resident experts to look through your logfile and offer advice.
